Posted on: March 23rd, 2020 by Our Team

A healthy immune system is essential to protect us from illness including viruses and cancers, and coronavirus is no different. This is especially true because we have no medication that treats coronavirus nor is there a vaccine to prevent it.  It’s time to be proactive.

These suggestions may help reduce the severity and duration of a viral infection.  Please consider these tips in addition to the current recommendations about hand washing, physical distancing, and getting tested if you develop symptoms; and following the guidance of your state and local officials.

Two quick tips to boost your immune system:

  1. Natural Supplements: Vitamin D, DHEA and Melatonin are all over the counter supplements which do not requiring a prescription. All three supplements definitely improve and can optimize your immune system.Recommended dosages:
Vitamin D: Adults should take at least 2000-5000 International Units (IU) daily to optimize their immunity.
DHEA: The female dose of DHEA should be 10 mg per day. The male dose of DHEA should 25 mg daily.
Melatonin: Melatonin is known for optimizing sleep and preventing jet lag. Adults should start between 1-3 mg of melatonin. Melatonin can safely be increased to 40 mg nightly in order to help with sleep and the immune system.
  1. Healthy Foods: A healthy diet of fruits and vegetables and decreasing stress will also improve the immune system. For stress reduction try meditation, breathing exercises and yoga.

These simple strategies to improve your immune function can help your body to combat the coronavirus; and augment public health measures.
