Sculptra Aesthetique is a soft tissue filler that “volumizes” more than it “fills” hollows and deflated skin. It does this slowly over several weeks and typically 2-3 treatment sessions. Sculptra is made up of Poly-L-Lactic Acid crystals that are similar to naturally occurring lactic acid. As such, it is biocompatible with the human body meaning that your skin sees it as a native product. During each treatment session, large volumes of dilute Sculptra product are injected into the skin. This gives the appearance of immediate fullness, but the fluid is quickly absorbed by the body. A few days after the procedure, the skin may look like nothing was injected. Gradually over the next 4-6 weeks, the Sculptra crystals stimulate the synthesis of collagen, an important building block that gives your skin support and fullness. After 2-3 treatments, this support structure creates the volume that has been lost with aging. Sculptra is often injected into the cheeks, temples, and jawline to restore youthful contour.
