A 72-year-old hiker presented with a poorly defined shiny growth on his mid scalp. A skin biopsy showed basal cell carcinoma skin cancer, which was successfully removed with Mohs micrographic surgery. Facial plastic reconstructive surgery was used to suture the circular wound closed into a straight line. 6 weeks after surgery, he has healed well and the straight line scar is no longer visible. He now uses a topical DNA repair enzyme daily and wears a hat when outdoors hiking to help prevent additional skin cancers!
